#4 - Roots / IPA

#4 - Roots / IPA

This big hoppy, oaty, hazy IPA is the fourth release in our '10 Beers for 10 Years' range, celebrating 10 years of brewing. Roots is a big and juicy hazy IPA, packed with Bru-1, El Dorado and Cryo Krush hops. Expect an aroma of citrus zest and mango with a rounded flavour of ripe tropical fruits and orange juice.

Our aim is for each of these 10 unique beers to tie into our core values of quality, community & sustainability. As the name suggests, Roots is a nod to the early days of brewing when F&L was just a thought, an idea, a dream!

Click here to see a video short about this beer.

The story starts nearly 15 years ago with 2 friends (Sam & Daf) beavering away on a homemade 100 litre stock-pot brew kit in a garage in rural Northumberland. Ric (who had then started to cut his teeth at Allendale Brewery) used to call by on offer advice and suggestions. Many happy memories and lots of batches of beer later and we’ve now got a much bigger brew kit to play with! For this beer we thought we’d get the original crew back together; so Daf, Ric and Sam brewed up some magic using some of the newest top-tier hops on the market. We were also joined by Steve, who used to own the Bird in Bush in Elsdon where we first set up the brewery & Toby who was our first brewery assistant!

There are so many people who are part of this story, so many people who have helped us along the way, you'll spot some in the video short (see link above) but there are far to many to mention by name. Some worked alongside us for years, others offered us support in other ways; well timed words of wisdom or encouragement, financial support and belief in us. We thank you all. Without our roots we are nothing.

You can buy F&L beers (including this one) as part of our Build Your Own Beer Box (make up your own box of 6 or 12).

Big thanks are due to Chris at Dead Sea Design in Pembrokeshire for the original artwork. Chris is a great friend, a musician, a surfer, a designer, and he runs a record shop. We're a bit in love with him. You too can show him some love to by following him on instagram;
